ABIA COUPLE BEHEADING: POLICE COMMENCE INVESTIGATION
The Abia State Police Command announced that it has opened an investigation into the reported beheading of Mr. Jacob Udo and Mrs. Comfort Udo at the Isiala Autonomous Community in the state’s Bende Local Government Area.
Unidentified attackers are said to have killed the victims Tuesday night, mutilating their remains after beheading them in their flat.
In a statement released on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer Maureen Chilaka confirmed the occurrence and stated that an investigation had begun to identify the perpetrators of the heinous act.
She wrote:”Yes, we received such report yesterday at Bende Divisional Headquarters. The crime scene has been visited, exhibits recovered. Bodies (of the victims have been) deposited at the mortuary, and investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, “the horrific and senseless killing” has been sharply denounced by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker and member of the House of Representatives from the Bende federal seat. The couple lived in Bende town, but they were from Itumbuzor, a rural hamlet in the same Bende LGA.
In a statement released by Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, his chief press secretary, the Deputy Speaker, who represents the Bende federal constituency, expressed revulsion over the savage occurrence.
“This heinous act of violence is unacceptable and violates the fundamental human right to life”, the statement read in part.
The Deputy Speaker said “no cause or grievance justifies such brutal and inhumane and dastardly act.”
In addition to expressing sympathy to the families of the victims, Hon. Kalu urged the state administration and law enforcement to look into the incident thoroughly in order to identify the offenders and bring them to justice.
However, he warned against retaliatory attacks and urged calm and control among the groups in the constituency.
The Deputy Speaker stated that the authorities would do the utmost to guarantee that the killers are located and punished for their crime.
