Flood has reportedly wrecked havoc in some of the hostels at the University of Ibadan (UI).

The afflicted resident hall, Awo Hostel, was reported to have approximately 16 fully inundated rooms on its subterranean floor, with students’ belongings floating atop the water.

According to reports, valuable student belongings like food, books, documents, and other items were destroyed.

One of the affected students, who pleaded anonymity said: ā€œThis is the third time everywhere is getting flooded but the first time our rooms are getting flooded like this.

ā€œPeoplesā€™ foodstuff,, documents and properties, especially those that went to exam and are not around were destroyed. Someone even left her laptop on the floor charging and she went out.ā€

Videos captured some of the hostel’s residents fighting to save belongings, several of which were visible floating in the water inside their apartments.

The videos demonstrated how the floods engulfed the dorms, kitchens, bathrooms, and all of the hostel’s doors.

A female student was heard complaining that the water destroyed everything in her room, including the items in her bed and pantry, and that she hasn’t been allowed to go outside and get the food she wants to eat.

An attempt to get in touch with the institution’s spokesperson to get a response was unsuccessful because her phone was unresponsive.
