GOV UMO ENO SWEARS IN NEWLY ELECTED LG CHAIRMEN

Pastor Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom state governor, has swore in the newly elected chairman and cice chairman for the state’s 31 local government areas, directing them to prioritise the welfare of the people.

Thirty of the new chairmen were elected on the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) platform, with one elected on the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) platform.

Again, five of the new local government chairmen are women, while 26 vice chairmanship positions are held by women.

The new chairman will oversee the business of the local government regions for the next three years.

Governor Eno praised the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for their commitment to conducting a fair and free election.

Governor Eno also reminded the new chairmen that their appointment to grassroots government in a time of dwindling economic fortunes places a responsibility on them to turn things around for the sake of the people.

He charged them with ensuring grassroots peace and togetherness by prioritising the well-being of the people in accordance with his administration’s Arise Agenda.

The new chairmen will then swear in elected Ward councillors in all 31 local government units across the state.
