The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, is still being investigated, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, through Director of Public Affairs Wilson Uwujaren, stated during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday that the controversial crossdresser Okuneye Idris, commonly known as Bobrisky, is also under investigation.

According to Uwujaren, the investigation into Betta Edu entails alleged malfeasance, with 40 related bank accounts presently being investigated and N30 billion recovered. The EFCC addressed claims that bribery was proposed to drop money laundering charges against the crossdresser in relation to Bobrisky, underscoring its zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.

“Concerning the investigation into the allegations involving Bobrisky and VeryDarkman, I am confident that the investigative process will conclude effectively. Should any misconduct be confirmed, appropriate actions will be taken. Throughout my time here, I have seen law enforcement personnel held accountable for professional misconduct,” Uwujaren stated.

He further remarked on Betta Edu’s case, explaining that updates had been provided as the investigation progressed. “When this investigation began, we reported on our advancements. The Chairman noted that monitoring over 40 accounts requires thorough examination, and these matters are still ongoing.”

A new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs was appointed as a result of a report that was presented to the President, according to Bayo Onanuga, a senior government official. The significance of this information and its source was recognised by the EFCC.
