JUST IN: FG ANNOUNCES FREE CEASAREAN SECTIONS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN IN NIGERIA
All Nigerian women are eligible for free caesarean sections (CS), according to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
As part of the new Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII) project, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, announced on Day 2 of the Joint Annual Review (JAR) conference that all Nigerian women in need would be eligible for free caesarean sections.
With maternal and newborn mortality rates of 512 deaths per 100,000 live births and 41 deaths per 1,000, respectively, and a low use of basic health care, Nigeria faces serious health concerns.
MAMII aims to address Nigeria’s high maternal and neonatal mortality rates by improving access to quality healthcare, enhancing primary health care (PHC) services, and increasing community engagement.
