HEALTH: KATSINA GOVT APPROVES UPGRADE OF 34 ADDITIONAL PHCs
Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has given his approval for the complete refurbishment and modernisation of 34 more primary healthcare facilities around the state.
This is on top of the state’s 102 newly refurbished and improved PHCs.
The goal is to have one fully operational PHC, complete with basic infrastructure, equipment supply, and human resources, in each of the 361 political wards in the state by the end of his first term in office.
During his inspection of the current PHC restoration and upgrading projects in seven LGAs in the Daura Zone on Thursday, Governor Radda spoke.
The governor made judgements that, in his opinion, will improve the state’s healthcare service after interacting with patients, carers, and medical professionals during the inspection visit.
According to Dr. Shamsuddin Yahaya, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, healthcare delivery in Nigeria is fundamental and must be done correctly.
He recalled that the governor had visited eleven hospitals in the Funtua Zone in the previous two weeks.
The affected PHCs, staff quarters, facilities, dispensary, and medical wards are all included in the ongoing upgrading and refurbishment contract, he clarified.
“This tour shows the political will of the Governor despite his busy and tight schedule.
“The Governor has asked us to conduct a needed assessment in terms of the human resources needed in these facilities.
“Currently, there is advertisement and the process of recruitment at the hospital management board where various cadres of healthcare officers are going to be employed so also at the primary healthcare level”, Dr Yahaya noted
