YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU READY TO DO MORE – SPECIAL ADVISER
The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has expressed his readiness to increase the capacity of the youths in the government’s drive to reduce hunger and poverty, and to put more food on the table of Lagosians through consistent socioeconomic reengineering and reorientation.
At a recent one-day workshop on fish farming hosted by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) in Ikorodu, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, Special Adviser on Rural Development, spoke. Mr. Governor gave the farmers and young people his word that they would be supported in their efforts to improve their level of living, food security, and self-sufficiency.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, welcomed participants to the program earlier and emphasized the importance of using the training and empowerment to earn a living for oneself and to support the socioeconomic advancement of the state.
Additionally, Mrs. Bolarinwa noted that the state government has made comparable gestures to the residents of Lagos Island, Epe, Eredo, Ikosi Ejirin, Imota, and Badagry.
By providing the required fishing equipment, the program attracts new participants to fish culture, which benefits the state, according to Mr. Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, Director of CERUD. He also stated that the Center is ready to provide additional support to those who have demonstrated their abilities and are prepared to advance their commercial operations.
Dr. Akinloye Busari, the lead consultant, highlighted the enormous market potential in fish farming during the training session.
This is because of the widening imbalance between supply and demand, as well as the lack of foreign cash to fund fish importation, which makes it necessary to look inward.
Mr. Adejonwo Oluwafemi, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to CERUD and the Lagos State Government for the admirable gesture and pledged to use the small CERUD startup to grow his business to an unprecedented level. Following the training, the participants received empowering items such as smoking kilns, fingerlings, fish tanks, and fish feed.
