LAGOS GOVT EMPOWERS UNDERGRADUATES THROUGH JOBS INITIATIVE LAGOS
The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the administration’s dedication to using digital technology, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence to promote economic development, growth, and better governance.
At the recent Jobs Initiative Lagos (JIL) training program closing ceremony in Ikeja, which was organized by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the governor made this statement.
Jobs Initiative Lagos (JIL) was more than just a training program, Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government, emphasized.
“It is a movement empowering students and youths to transform the economy and build a better future”, he said.
He claims that by offering thorough instruction in subjects including business development, digital technologies, communication skills, employability principles, financial management, coding, and entrepreneurship, the program seeks to alleviate unemployment among graduates in the state. He claimed that this is consistent with his goal of making Lagos State a center for Sub-Saharan Africa’s technical development.
The governor informed the more than 500 participants in the three-week intensive training, who were selected from the state’s five tertiary institutions, that the current administration is showcasing its commitment to making Lagos a leader in economic development and technological advancement by funding such programs.
“With Jobs Initiative Lagos, undergraduates in state-owned tertiary institutions can acquire industry-recognized skills, entrepreneurial mindsets, and innovative thinking to thrive in the 21st-century workforce”, he said.
Addressing participants at the venue, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, expressed delight at the programme’s achievements, stating, “Today marks the culmination of our collective efforts to empower our youths with industry-recognized skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and innovative thinking”.
Tolani claims that the training’s entrepreneurial component successfully closed the knowledge gap between academia and business, and participant testimonials were upbeat and motivating.
He gave the assurance that the Lagos State government is still dedicated to making investments in high-quality tertiary education and infrastructure in order to prepare its young people to handle the challenges of the workforce of the twenty-first century.
The lead speaker at the event, who also doubles as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the State Government, Mr. Samuel Egube, who delivered a paper on the theme: “Maximising the Transforming Capabilities of Artificial Intelligence in the 21st Century Workplace”, told participants that Jobs Initiative Lagos was a platform for them to improve and prepare for future challenges as the training would shape and transform them positively to become self-reliant.
Discussants concurred that the threat represented by contemporary technology in the labor market would only be survivable by those possessing the necessary training and expertise.
In order to eradicate unemployment among graduates of state government tertiary institutions, the training was a component of the state government’s meticulously planned programs to teach students in state-owned tertiary institutions digital marketing, coding, artificial intelligence, and cyber security.
