West Ham forward Michail Antonio is in stable condition in hospital, “conscious and communicating,” following a road traffic accident, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.

The Hammers confirmed the 34-year-old is under “close supervision at a central London hospital” after the incident in Essex earlier that day.

The update followed the circulation of unverified images online showing a heavily damaged Ferrari.
A club statement read:

“West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.

“Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital.

“At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.

“The club will make no further comment this evening but will issue a further update in due course.”
Essex Fire Service confirmed that firefighters attended the scene and rescued a man trapped in his vehicle.

Support for Antonio poured in from fellow Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. Arsenal posted on X: “Everyone at Arsenal sends their love, support, and well wishes to Michail, his family, and West Ham United.”

Antonio, a London-born Jamaica international, joined West Ham in 2015 and has scored 83 goals in 323 appearances for the club. This season, he has scored once in 15 appearances, contributing to a 4-1 home victory against Ipswich in early October.

The former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday striker was part of the West Ham squad that won the Europa Conference League in 2023 under David Moyes.

Now managed by Julen Lopetegui, West Ham will host Wolves on Monday.
