TINUBU RENAMES UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA TO YAKUBU GOWON UNIVERSITY
On Monday, the Federal Executive Council gave its approval for the University of Abuja to change its name to Yakubu Gowon University.
This was revealed to State House media by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, after the council’s final 2024 meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
Established in January 1988 by Decree No. 110 of 1992 as modified, the institution of Abuja, popularly known as UNIABUJA, is a dual-mode institution with the authority to provide both traditional and remote learning programs.
When its first students matriculated in 1990, the institution officially began its academic operations.
Nigeria’s former military leader is Yakubu Gowon. He was the nation’s ruler from 1966 to 1975.
Also during the address by the Minister, he disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has approved free transportation nationwide ahead of Christmas celebration.
He said the Federal Government will commence a nationwide free train services from the 20th of December to 5th of January 2025.
Idris stated that FEC will be on recess from 18 of December until 6th of January 2025.
