The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has stated that the Federal Government is prepared to receive Nigerians deported from the United States.

In an interview with Vanguard on Tuesday evening, the Commission’s Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs oversees such matters.

Balogun also mentioned that the Federal Government has established an inter-agency committee to manage the situation if Nigerians are deported from the US.

“The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US.”

The NiDCOM spokesperson, however, emphasized that the commission was not informed about Nigerians in the United States being processed for deportation.

It is important to note that around 3,690 Nigerians in the US are at risk of deportation due to Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants. According to a document from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which was reviewed by our correspondent on Tuesday, the data lists the number of people facing deportation by nationality.

In the document titled “Noncitizens on the ICE Non-Detained Docket with Final Orders of Removal by Country of Citizenship,” Mexico and El Salvador top the list of nations facing the most deportation, with 252,044 and 203,822, respectively.

Mexico and El Salvador top the list, with 252,044 and 203,822 individuals facing deportation, respectively. ICE is tasked with safeguarding America from cross-border crime and illegal immigration that could pose a threat to national security.

Meanwhile, last Thursday, hundreds of migrants were arrested, and some were deported via military aircraft as part of the mass deportation operation promised by Donald Trump.

Nigerians and other African illegal immigrants in the United States could be the next targets for deportation by the US government.
