
SENATE COMMENCES TWO-DAY PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED TAX REFORM BILLS
Key players from the country’s financial and economic sectors are present at the Senate’s two-day public hearing on proposed tax reform legislation.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman Zacch Adedeji, the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, members of the Federal Executive Council, heads of pertinent agencies, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, are among those present.
Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, promised that the procedure will be open and driven by the interests of the country.
He underlined that the purpose of the hearing is to examine and update the nation’s tax legislation to reflect the state of the economy today.
According to him, the reforms aim to eradicate inefficiencies in the current tax laws while ensuring equity, justice, and inclusivity.
Senator Musa stressed the value of group contributions in creating a tax structure that promotes economic progress and national success, and he asked all interested parties and the public to actively engage in the talks.
