Ahmed Pasali, a well-known TikTok influencer, has been sued by the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) for allegedly defaming and damaging Kannywood’s name.

On Monday, Pasali showed up for trial in the Upper Area Court in Kasuwar Nama, Jos, on charges related to a video he shared on social media.

According to MOPPAN, the video included remarks that denigrated Kannywood actors and directors.

Pasali was read the charges during the court session, which included damaging Kannywood members’ reputations and defamation.

But he entered a not guilty plea. His attorney requested bail right away.

Judge Thomas Nakowa granted bail after hearing arguments from the defense and prosecution, but imposed stringent requirements, such as a guarantor’s signature from a MOPPAN member, a surety who owns a home in Jos with legitimate documentation, and a payment of ₦250,000.

Pasali was placed under remand in a correctional facility because he was unable to comply with the requirements right away.

Malam Umaru Maikudi Cashman, the national president of MOPPAN, discussed the subject and declared that the organization will not put up with disparaging remarks made about its members.

“We will take a firm stand against anyone who spreads falsehoods or tarnished the reputation of Kannywood,” he said.

The case has been adjourned until April 5 for further hearings.
