SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS FIRST MEDICAL SYRINGES FACTORY, BOOSTING HEALTH FACILITIES IN LAGOS

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering industrialization and economic growth through strategic investments in infrastructure, power supply, and policy reforms.

Speaking at the official commissioning of O-Care Disposable Syringes, the first medical syringe factory in Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the government’s support for initiatives that enhance local manufacturing. The factory, established by Transgreen Nigeria Limited, is located in Odofin Park Estate, Ijesha, Apapa-Oshodi.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the governor emphasized his administration’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for businesses like Transgreen Nigeria Limited and other industries to thrive.

He described the O-Care Disposable Syringes factory as more than just a manufacturing facility, calling it a symbol of innovation, resilience, and excellence. He added that local production of high-quality syringes would reduce reliance on imports, create jobs, and ensure a steady supply of essential medical equipment.

“As we celebrate this achievement today, let us remember that this is just the beginning. This is particularly important as we continue to strengthen our healthcare infrastructure to meet global standards. Our administration remains committed to creating an enabling

environment for businesses like Transgreen Nigeria Limited to thrive. Through strategic investments in infrastructure, power supply, and policy reforms, we will continue to support initiatives that drive industrialization and economic growth”, said Sanwo-Olu.

Sanwo-Olu further emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s development agenda, particularly in the healthcare sector, reinforcing the vision of a healthier and more prosperous Lagos. He highlighted that the factory’s establishment showcases the impact of collaboration between the government and the private sector in addressing critical gaps in both the state and national healthcare systems.

He noted that this facility contributes to the government’s broader goal of economic diversification by promoting industrial growth in Lagos. Additionally, it supports the state’s 2025 “Budget of Sustainability,” which prioritizes infrastructure development, human capital investment, and environmental sustainability. The governor stressed that the alignment between this project and the state’s healthcare-focused budget demonstrates a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for all Lagosians.

Commending Transgreen Nigeria Limited for its vision and dedication in establishing the state-of-the-art factory, he stated that “the O-Care syringes are designed with safety and environmental sustainability in mind, qualities that reflect the highest standards of medical

manufacturing. These syringes will not only serve the needs of Nigerians but will also position Lagos as a hub for medical innovation in Africa.”

Sanwo-Olu urged industry leaders, healthcare professionals, investors, and policymakers to collaborate with the government in its efforts to build a self-sufficient Lagos, where innovation drives progress and prosperity.

In her speech, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, described the syringe factory as a significant addition to the Lagos State Government’s THEMES Plus Agenda. She emphasized that the initiative strengthens the healthcare sector and ensures residents have access to essential medical infrastructure.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted that healthcare remains a central focus of the administration’s #GreaterLagos development agenda. She noted that the Governor has made remarkable progress in revitalizing and repositioning the healthcare sector to enhance service delivery.

Describing the project as a major milestone in achieving self-sufficiency in medical supplies and improving healthcare services, the First Lady assured that her office would continue to support government efforts. She pledged to implement intervention programs benefiting vulnerable women, youths, and children, ensuring inclusive healthcare access.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Transgreen Nigeria Limited, Mr. Cyprian Orakpo, stated that O-Care Disposable Syringes would not only address healthcare needs but also help reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported medical supplies.

 

Orakpo noted that the Manufacturing Companies in Nigeria come with numerous hurdles, “Such as access to capital remains a struggle, the cost of power is prohibitive, and the burden of multiple taxes from different government agencies complicates the landscape for

businesses. The infrastructure, from roads to power, has been a significant obstacle. Yet, despite these challenges, we remain committed to our mission of elevating healthcare everywhere.”

He added that the story of Transgreen Nigeria Limited is a testament to the power of resilience, innovation, and deep belief in the potential of Made in Products.

 

Director General, NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye who was represented by Director of Vaccines, Biologics and Medical Devices Registration and Regulatory Affairs Directorate, Khadijah Ade-Abolade, a Pharmacist, stated that the product of O-Care Disposable Syringes is officially

recognized by NAFDAC, ensuring that it adheres to international standards of excellence.

 

“At NAFDAC, we understand the critical importance of manufacturing high-quality medical devices locally. The approval of O-Care Disposable Syringes is a reflection of the diligent work and dedication that we, as the regulatory authority, invest in ensuring that

only safe and effective products reach the market. I am proud to say that O-Care syringes meet all the regulatory requirements for safety, quality, and good performance. This product is officially recognized by NAFDAC, ensuring that it adheres to international

standards of excellence,” said Ade-Abolade.

The Director-General highlighted that the commissioning signifies not merely the launch of a new product but also a significant advancement in Nigeria’s healthcare sector. This aligns with the broader vision of enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians and the entire African continent.
