BOBRISKY FALLS VICTIM TO $990 ONLINE ROMANCE SCAM, WARNS FANS
Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, is a Nigerian socialite and crossdresser who recently lost $990 to a scammer in an online romance scam.
On Sunday, Bobrisky took to his Instagram page to share his dismay and sorrow at the incident, saying he never thought he would be the target of such a plot.
The con artist had been corresponding with him for months, he said, and claimed to have lived in the United States before moving to Canada.
During the course of their conversation, the con artist called Bobrisky often and pretended to be genuinely interested in her life.
“I never thought in my life I would be a client to anybody.
“This guy came to my DM, and we got talking — close to a few months now. He calls me almost every day. He said he lived in the USA but moved to Canada,” he wrote.
According to Bobrisky, the scam changed course when a U.S. client contacted him regarding an advertisement and requested to use CashApp to make a deposit.
He then asked the supposed lover for help in receiving the payment.
“Few weeks later, someone in the USA reached out for ads. She said she needed a Cash App to pay her deposit, and I asked this guy talking to me. He said he would give me his own. As soon as he got the money, he blocked me immediately,” he added.
The social media star went one step further and posted screenshots of their conversations along with a picture of the purported con artist on his page, cautioning followers against falling for similar scams.
