Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has agreed to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa’s (rtd) request for the Scheme to send Corps Members with the necessary qualifications to the Agency’s Counseling and Rehabilitation Centers across the country.

In an effort to guarantee that the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory each have one of these centers, General Marwa revealed that there are currently 30 such centers in place with plans to open seven more.

The NDLEA boss made this request when the NYSC Director General paid a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja. Marwa called for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies which would streamline their areas of cooperation.

General Marwa congratulated the NYSC Chief Executive on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure of office.

Earlier in his speech, Nafiu praised Marwa’s accomplishments at the NDLEA and other places, as well as the imposing accomplishments that served as reminders of his tenure as Lagos State Governor.

Regarding the NDLEA Chairman’s request for certified drug integrity testing for potential Corps Members, General Nafiu stated that while it is a good idea, the NYSC is unable to take any action because it is a policy problem, particularly since the Scheme’s enabling Act did not provide for it.

He, however, stressed that it will be executed if it becomes a policy of the Government.
