The kidnappers of Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have slashed their initial ransom demand from N100 million to N5 million.
In addition to the reduced ransom, the abductors are also demanding food supplies as part of the conditions for his release.
Adepoyigi was abducted on Monday evening from his residence located along the Ifon-Owo Road in the local government area.
The chairman of the council, Kolapo Oja, who disclosed the development, stated that “as of last night, the negotiation we received from them was N5 million.
According to him, negotiations were still ongoing, with a final agreement yet to be reached as regards the exact amount to be paid.
“We have appealed to them to reduce the ransom to a more reasonable amount.
“I asked the family members and some council officials to return and see if they could negotiate it down to N2 million.
“They are yet to report back. We hope he returns safely to us,” he said.
