The Lagos State Police Command has addressed concerns raised by a viral video showing a large group of young men reportedly arriving in Lagos en masse, seen gathered outside the Dano Company premises in the Ibeju-Lekki area.

In a swift response to the viral footage, officers from the Command were deployed to the location on May 14, 2025, to investigate the situation. Preliminary findings revealed that the 89 young men had traveled from Katsina State and were recruited to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.

A contractor affiliated with the refinery appeared before the police and confirmed that he had personally facilitated the recruitment and transport of the labourers for legitimate employment. This statement was supported by the Chief Security Officer of the refinery, who verified that the workers were cleared and scheduled to reside within the refinery premises.

Police reports confirmed that all individuals were searched, and no incriminating items were found. They also presented valid means of identification, including National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were verified by authorities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified or alarmist content that could trigger unnecessary panic. He emphasized the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Lagos State and reassured residents of continued swift responses to any issues concerning public safety.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, on Thursday.
