By Jen Nomamiukor
Bruno Fernandes has said he’s willing to leave Manchester United if the club needs to sell him to fund a rebuild following their Europa League final loss to Tottenham. United’s 1-0 defeat in Bilbao, with Brennan Johnson scoring the only goal, capped off a disappointing season.
Manager Ruben Amorim stated after the defeat that he would step down without discussing compensation if the club no longer wanted him.
Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s 30-year-old captain, acknowledges the club’s need for a squad overhaul despite financial challenges. He remains committed to the team “until the club says it’s time to go,” expressing his desire to help restore the club’s former glory. Fernandes accepts that parting ways could happen if the club decides to sell players for financial reasons. Although he has been United’s key player this season, he struggled in their recent defeat to Spurs, which he described as a “very sad day”
He said they wanted to win more than anything in the final, and that it’s a very sad day because they had done well in the competition until now.

The midfielder, who joined United in 2020, defended manager Amorim despite a poor record since November, with only six league wins and the team sitting 16th in the Premier League, facing their worst finish since 1974. Fernandes said the players believe Amorim is the right man, acknowledging that while results matter, they see his positive impact and hope he can restore positivity at the club.
They believe he is the right person to lead the club in competing for major trophies again.
