A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of 33-year-old Terhemen Lorlumun over alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Lorlumun, a farmer from Mbaagea Ikyurav-ya in Kwande Local Government Area, was apprehended by officers of the Benue Police Command following a tip-off.
Magistrate Adah Jack declined to take his plea due to lack of jurisdiction and directed that he be held at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigation. The matter was adjourned to June 23 for mention.
According to Police Prosecutor Insp. James Ewaoche, the case was reported by Nule Desmond at the Adikpo Police Station. Desmond alleged that he had hired a motorcyclist, Lorlaha Terungwa, to transport him to Jato-Aka via Ikyogen. However, the motorcyclist allegedly colluded with Agusana Terkimbi and Terhemen Lorlumun to rob him at gunpoint.
Items stolen included N1,000,000 cash, a Nigerian Bar Association ID card, Union Bank ATM cards, a small bag, driver’s license, clothing worth N15,000, a Tecno Spark 5 Pro phone valued at N54,000, a Tecno Spark 7 phone worth N78,000, and gold jewelry valued at N840,000.
During the investigation, police recovered N22,300, a bag of clothes, the motorcycle used in the robbery, and a bag of charms. Lorlumun allegedly confessed to selling the gold to an individual known only as DJ Soul Man.
The prosecutor noted that investigations are ongoing and requested a new date for further proceedings. He added that the alleged crimes violate Sections 6(b) and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004.
