The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Paul for allegedly stabbing his younger brother to death in Ugbokodo, a community in Okpe Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident via a text message to a correspondent in Warri, stating simply: “Confirmed.”
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday evening following a disagreement over a missing ₦2,000 belonging to Paul’s wife. She had accused the victim, Saturday, of stealing the money a claim he denied. During a heated exchange, she reportedly grabbed his shirt, and in retaliation, Saturday slapped her.
Neighbors intervened and separated them, but the woman contacted her husband, known as Papa Jeffery, who returned home furious. Without seeking clarification, he and one of his sons went in search of Saturday. They found him at the waterside, where they allegedly beat and stabbed him to death.
In reaction to the killing, enraged youths from the community set fire to the suspect’s house and his wife’s shop. Security personnel, including police and soldiers, were deployed to restore order.
