The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has called for the support of Nigerians in the ongoing fight against terrorism. Highlighting the importance of collective efforts, he urged citizens to collaborate with security forces to ensure a safer environment for all. The CDS reiterated the military’s commitment to eradicating insecurity and emphasized the need for unity in the nation’s battle against terror.
General Musa also highlighted the importance of trust, civic engagement, and responsible narratives in tackling insecurity, noting that insurgency thrives when citizens inadvertently support anti-peace efforts. Zakari Mijinyawa, representing the NSA, emphasized that security responsibilities extend beyond military and intelligence forces. Meanwhile, Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, acknowledged the Armed Forces’ sacrifices and urged the media to report on military successes while minimizing coverage of terrorist activities.
A forum organized by the media in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and National Orientation sought to facilitate open dialogue among security institutions, the media, civil society, and citizens. The event emphasized the importance of unity, trust, and collective responsibility in fostering a safer and more secure Nigeria.

For over a decade, Nigeria’s North-East zone has been plagued by terrorist attacks, resulting in thousands of deaths and numerous injuries, abductions, and displacements. Notably, a recent suicide bombing in June claimed at least 32 lives and left many injured. Although the military has achieved some successes against these insurgents, such victories have often come at a high cost, with gallant soldiers and security personnel losing their lives in the struggle. The proximity of Nigeria’s border with Cameroon complicates efforts in the anti-terror campaign, as insurgents frequently carry out violent assaults and escape the country, leaving the local population in profound distress.
