EDUCATORS ORGANIZE 60,000-TEACHER CONFERENCE FOR GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Proprietors, educational leaders, and stakeholders within Nigeria’s educational landscape have ramped up efforts to rally 60,000 educators for the forthcoming “Let There Be Teachers” Conference.
The Nigerian education sector has long contended with systemic obstacles, including inadequate funding, insufficient infrastructure, low teacher motivation, and restricted access to professional development.
Despite being integral to national progress, the teaching profession is frequently undervalued, with many educators enduring meager salaries, congested classrooms, and limited opportunities for career advancement.
A statement from Mr. Luyi Armstrong, General Secretary of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, issued on Wednesday, indicated that a strategic assembly convened key figures from the Nigeria Union of Teachers and other essential stakeholders to finalize plans for what has the potential to establish a Guinness World Record— the largest gathering of teachers in Nigerian history.
During the strategy meeting, he characterized the conference as a pivotal moment for Nigerian educators, noting that this unprecedented assembly is scheduled for September 20, 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

“This is a precursor to the event scheduled for next Saturday. We are thrilled that, for the first time in our nation’s history, educators will convene on such a scale to address their challenges and acknowledge their contributions. All teachers are encouraged to participate. ”
The conference organizer and education proponent, Oluwaseyi Anifowose, underscored the necessity of collaboration in reforming Nigeria’s educational system. “The advancement of our institutions is directly linked to the progress of our educators. By empowering schools, we empower teachers, and ultimately, we secure the future of education in Nigeria,” Anifowose stated.
Dr. Hakeem Subair, co-founder of 1 Million Teachers (1MT), highlighted the vital role educators play in national development. “It is imperative for society to prioritize the concerns of teachers. Educators have a significant impact on shaping communities and fostering unity,” he remarked.
The strategy session also included contributions from notable educational experts, such as Ronke Posh Adeniyi, Rizma Butt, Rotimi Eyitayo, Rhoda Odigboh, and Prof. Akin Akinpelu, who provided insights on school innovation, leadership, and sustainability.
Organizers assert that the “Let There Be Teachers” Conference will illuminate critical issues confronting educators, promote solutions to address learning poverty, and advocate for technology-enhanced teaching methods.
Furthermore, it will encourage partnerships across states and enhance teacher training initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes for millions of Nigerian children.
