First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has expressed condolences to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, corporate organisations, and families affected by Tuesday’s deadly fire at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, Mrs Tinubu commiserated with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital, and United Bank for Africa (UBA), which lost staff members in the inferno that claimed ten lives.
“I condole with Gov. Sanwo-Olu, the people of the state, and affected organisations, including FIRS and UBA, over the tragic fire at Afriland Towers that claimed ten lives. May God Almighty comfort the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the departed and the injured during this time of deep grief and pain,” the First Lady said.

She prayed for the repose of the deceased, healing for the injured, and strength for the bereaved.
The blaze, which broke out in the inverter room of the six-storey building, spread quickly through smoke-filled floors, trapping many occupants. Emergency responders battled for hours to contain the inferno, with viral videos showing some victims leaping from upper floors in panic.
The incident, one of the deadliest fires in Lagos Island in recent years, left at least ten people dead, several others injured, and goods worth millions destroyed. It was also the second fire outbreak recorded in the Lagos Island business district that day, heightening concerns about fire safety standards in high-rise commercial buildings.
Mrs Tinubu’s condolence adds to a wave of sympathies from government officials, corporate bodies, and civil society organisations, alongside growing calls for stricter enforcement of fire safety measures in commercial hubs across the state.
