Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has confirmed that he and former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, have reconciled their political differences, calling it a crucial move toward lasting peace in the state.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara reflected on the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a difficult period that nonetheless paved the way for reconciliation.

“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he said.

The emergency rule, imposed in March 2025, suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly amid escalating political and legislative tensions.

It lasted until mid-September, when democratic governance was restored.

Fubara’s announcement follows the peace deal with Wike, which ended their prolonged public rift.

However, the governor acknowledged ongoing political tensions in the state, with rival factions still showing loyalty to both him and his predecessor.
