At least 4.8 million children aged between nine months and 14 years are set to be vaccinated against Rubella in Katsina State during the forthcoming Integrated Polio Vaccination Campaign scheduled for October 6 to 13, 2025.
In addition, 3,698,500 doses of Novel Oral Polio Vaccines (nOPV2) have been allocated to the state, targeting 2.3 million children under five years of age through the Directly Observed Oral Polio Vaccination (DOOPV) strategy.
The Chief of UNICEF Field Office in Kano, Rahama Farah, disclosed this in Katsina during a media dialogue on the October campaign, jointly organised by UNICEF and the Katsina State Government. Representatives of the National Emergency Operation Centre, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the Katsina State Primary Healthcare Agency were also in attendance.
According to Farah, 2,253 vaccination teams will be deployed across the state, using both fixed and temporary post strategies between October 4 and 13. Furthermore, 5,584 teams will provide routine immunisation services and other antigens from October 6 to 10, including 3,761 house-to-house teams, 993 teams at transit points, and 830 at fixed posts.
He revealed that UNICEF has supported the training of 3,300 health workers to improve people skills and 600 Non-Compliance Resolution Teams (NCRTs) to address resistance to vaccination. About 200 NCRTs, each comprising a community leader, traditional leader, and a vaccinator, will operate in real time to resolve non-compliance during the campaign.
UNICEF has also deployed six state facilitators, 21 LGA facilitators, 462 voluntary ward supervisors, and 4,647 voluntary community mobilisers to strengthen the exercise.
Farah urged the media to intensify awareness by disseminating accurate information to parents, caregivers, and communities, stressing that vaccines provided by the government are free, safe, and effective.
He explained that the nationwide campaign will be implemented in two phases across all 36 states, from October 6, 2025, to February 13, 2026, with Katsina scheduled for the first phase.
