The National Universities Commission has awarded full accreditation for 34 academic programs across four faculties at the recently inaugurated Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti.
The Registrar of FUTES, Mr. Oluwole Dada, who announced this in a statement issued in Iyin Ekiti on Thursday, indicated that the accreditation has cleared the path for the official initiation of academic activities for the 2025/2026 academic session at the institution.
The Registrar mentioned that this followed a week-long facility assessment conducted by four NUC teams, which evaluated the university’s laboratories, classrooms, lecture halls, offices, dormitories, library, clinic, restrooms, staff transport, and teaching apparatus, including Hitachi boards.
He remarked, “The exercise was aimed at ascertaining the institution’s preparedness and its capacity to deliver world-class training in science, engineering and technology, computing and information technology and environmental sciences”
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, who expressed delight at the successful verification, described it as “a milestone that affirms the university’s readiness to provide 21st-century education.”
Aribisala encouraged prospective students to update their preferred institution to FUTES on the JAMB portal, assuring that admissions would be strictly merit-based.
“We are here for academic excellence and that is the standard we want to set from the onset. Students who performed well in JAMB, WAEC, NECO or NABTEB will be admitted purely on merit, without fear or favour,” he stated.
The Vice Chancellor warned parents and guardians against engaging admission agents, clarifying, “We want to make it clear to members of the public that the university has no agent for admissions or payments of any kind. Our website is open to everyone to access accurate information.”
He advised interested applicants to rely exclusively on verified information available on the institution’s official website, www.futes.edu. ng, or to reach out to the office of the Registrar for assistance.
According to the registrar, the programs accredited by NUC for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology include Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering.
He enumerated those for the Faculty of Science as Biochemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Forensic Science, Geology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Statistics, Animal and Environmental Biology, Biotechnology, Science Laboratory Technology, and Environmental Management and Toxicology.

It is noteworthy that President Bola Tinubu, on February 20, 2025, signed two distinct bills establishing FUTES, Iyin Ekiti, and the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State.
Tinubu, as articulated in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that “the specialized institutions will cater to the educational requirements of the populace while fostering research and innovation and contributing to the nation’s overall economic advancement and development.
He remarked, “The institutions will serve as training grounds for developing agriculture, science and technology professionals and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy.”
The President, in March, appointed Senator Binta Garba as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council of the university.
Onanuga characterized Garba as “a seasoned politician, businesswoman, and administrator who represented the Adamawa North Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2019 and served consecutively in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011.”
