Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, on Monday inaugurated the Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Research Centre at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba.
The governor, in a statement posted on his official X handle, described the newly commissioned facility as an “ultra-modern research centre that will serve as a hub for groundbreaking medical innovation, learning, and collaboration.”
He commended philanthropist and businessman Kesington Adebutu for what he termed a “remarkable gesture of generosity and lifelong commitment to advancing education and healthcare.”
“Today, I unveiled and commissioned the ultra-modern Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Research Centre at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba. This is another milestone in our collective efforts to build a healthier, knowledge-driven society,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor expressed confidence that the new centre would boost research capacity and drive innovations with direct impact on the healthcare sector in Lagos and across Nigeria.
“I am confident that this Research Centre will be a place where curious minds are nurtured, where ideas become breakthroughs, and where collaboration across disciplines helps us tackle real-life health challenges facing Lagos State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting education and healthcare through public-private partnerships.
“We believe that partnerships like this one are the future of sustainable growth in healthcare and research. When government, academia, and the private sector work together, the result is lasting impact for our people,” he said.
Adebutu, founder of the Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation and Chairman of Premier Lotto Limited, is well known for his philanthropy in education, healthcare, and community development.
In October 2024, he funded the construction of a state-of-the-art Media Resource Centre at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos. His foundation has also supported educational and healthcare infrastructure across several tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The newly commissioned research centre is expected to enhance the capacity of UNILAG’s College of Medicine for advanced research and medical training, aligning with ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to strengthen healthcare delivery and research infrastructure across the state.
