The Kogi State Government has announced the rescue of 15 pupils who were abducted from an unregistered orphanage and school facility in Zariagi, Kogi State.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo.

According to Fanwo, efforts are still underway to secure the release of the remaining victims, including the wife of the school proprietor.

He explained that the facility, identified as Dahallukitab Group of School, was operating illegally in a remote, bushy area along the Kabba Junction axis without official registration or notification to relevant authorities.

Fanwo stated that the attack occurred late on April 26 when armed men invaded the premises and abducted 23 pupils alongside the proprietor’s wife.

He noted that security personnel led by the Nigeria Police Force, with support from other agencies, responded swiftly and successfully rescued 15 of the abducted pupils.

The commissioner praised the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, saying their coordinated action helped reduce the severity of the incident.

The government also expressed concern over the growing number of unregistered institutions operating in isolated locations, warning that such facilities pose significant security threats under current conditions.

Fanwo stressed that institutions functioning outside regulatory oversight compromise safety standards and leave vulnerable children exposed to preventable risks.

He urged owners of orphanages and schools to adhere strictly to government regulations and work closely with authorities to ensure adequate security assessment and protection.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, Fanwo added that security operations remain ongoing to fully address the situation.
