MAJOR INJURY DOUBTS CLOUD ARSENAL F.C. VS ATLETICO MADRID SEMI-FINAL

By: Fasasi Hammad
Arsenal F.C. and Atlético Madrid are dealing with significant injury concerns ahead of their high-stakes UEFA Champions League semi-final clash, with several influential players either unavailable or facing late fitness assessments.
Atletico Madrid Monitoring Key Players
Manager Diego Simeone is still awaiting updates on a number of first-team stars despite his side’s confidence-boosting 3-2 victory over Athletic Club at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Striker Alexander Sørloth, who scored twice in that match, reassured supporters after appearing to suffer a late injury scare, confirming it was only cramp rather than a serious problem. Nonetheless, his recent fitness record remains a concern.
Winger Ademola Lookman has not played since the Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad and was absent from the weekend fixture. There is cautious optimism he could recover in time for the encounter with Arsenal.
Forward Julián Álvarez is also considered a major doubt. The former Manchester City F.C. player has missed Atletico’s last four league matches with a minor thigh issue. While some reports suggest he may be fit enough to start, others indicate he remains a risky selection.
At the back, David Hancko has only recently resumed light training and was omitted from the previous squad, while José María Giménez is also racing to regain fitness.
Midfielder Pablo Barrios is the only confirmed absentee for Atletico after sustaining an injury during the win over Athletic Club.
Arsenal Facing Injury Challenges
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is managing a growing list of fitness concerns following his side’s narrow victory over Newcastle United F.C..
Midfielder Eberechi Eze, who scored the decisive goal, was substituted after taking a knock but later suggested the move was precautionary. However, his history of recurring minor injuries leaves his availability uncertain.
Forward Kai Havertz is another doubt after heading straight down the tunnel during the first half against Newcastle. Arteta described the problem as a muscular issue but did not confirm whether he would be ready for the semi-final.
Midfielder Martín Zubimendi is expected to recover despite being withdrawn late due to illness after struggling through portions of the match.
Defensively, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber are both unlikely to feature, with their returns anticipated in early May.
Long-term absentee Mikel Merino remains sidelined with a foot injury and is not expected to play again this season.
