One of the abducted teachers of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Michael Oyedokun, has been killed by his abductors.

He was reportedly beheaded in a disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers on Sunday. The footage, which surfaced on Telegram and was seen on Monday, showed the teacher tied up and forced to speak before being killed.

The video has sparked renewed fears over the safety of other victims still in captivity.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with residents and families of the abducted persons urging security agencies and the state government to intensify efforts to rescue those still held by the kidnappers before more lives are lost.

Confirming the development, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, said the governor had expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that both kinetic and non-kinetic measures would be deployed to secure the release of the remaining victims.

He also disclosed that about six suspects linked to the kidnapping have been arrested.

Olanrewaju further sympathised with families of personnel from the military, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes who died during a rescue operation, noting that they reportedly lost their lives after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the abductors.

He added that injured security operatives are responding to treatment and assured that the government would fully cover their medical care.

He urged families of the victims, religious groups, and other concerned stakeholders to remain patient, assuring that the government is working to rescue and reunite the abductees with their loved ones.

According to him, “So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to endeavour to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly.

“What we know right now is that seven teachers were abducted in all. Unfortunately, we received a video this morning showing that one of them, I understand the mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists,” he said.

Governor Seyi Makinde also disclosed that security agencies have recorded some breakthroughs in the case, including arrests linked to the incident.

“Well, from the information available from the Commissioner of Police, about six individuals have been arrested within the locality.

“Some of them, we believe, are perhaps informants or people running logistics for the terrorists.

“Also, three individuals of interest have been arrested by another security outfit within the state,” he added.

According to reports, gunmen attacked the school on Friday, May 15, abducting the principal, several teachers, and students.

The incident, which came weeks after a failed kidnapping attempt that claimed the life of a traveller along the Ibadan–Ijebu road, has heightened concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Oyo State and across the country.
