Marcus Onobun has rejected the outcome of the APC primary election for the Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, insisting that he won the contest conducted over the weekend.

The lawmaker called on the All Progressives Congress to officially recognise him as the rightful winner, arguing that results from the wards backed his claim.

In a petition submitted to the party’s Primary Election Petitions Committee on Sunday, Onobun requested a comprehensive review of the ward-by-ward results, reports from party officials, agents, and other supporting documents.

According to him, he secured the majority of valid votes cast during the exercise and should therefore be declared the authentic winner of the primary. He also alleged irregularities in the collation and announcement of results in some wards, claiming due process was not followed.

The APC Primary Election Committee had earlier announced Lucky Esiegbe as winner of the contest, a decision now being challenged by Onobun.

Onobun noted that the party adopted the direct primary system, which allowed registered members across the 30 wards in the constituency to vote.

The federal lawmaker defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in July 2025, citing internal crises and leadership disputes within his former party. He also previously served as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.
