SHINE ROSMAN LAMENTS RISING SEXUAL HARASSMENT CASES IN LAGOS, CALLS FOR ACTION

Nigerian-Canadian actress Shine Rosman has raised concerns over what she described as the widespread incidence of sexual harassment in Lagos State, particularly in the Yaba area, where she alleged that women are frequently subjected to inappropriate touching in public without consequences for offenders.
Rosman, known for her role in To Kill A Monkey and her advocacy work, expressed frustration over what she called the persistent nature of the problem and the lack of effective response from authorities.
“Do you know how bad sexual harassment is in Lagos? Go to Yaba as a girl and see how you’ll be touched inappropriately. Everyone hearing this knows it is true,” she said during an appearance on the Café One Studio podcast.
She alleged that the situation persists openly despite repeated complaints and public awareness, adding that little has been done to curb the behaviour or hold perpetrators accountable.
“But till today, nothing has been done about it. You’re walking in Yaba, and people are touching you inappropriately, and nothing will happen,” she added.
The actress, who founded the non-profit organisation Available Shoulders to support survivors of harassment and trauma, also referenced a viral social media clip in which a woman reportedly defended herself after being harassed.
Rosman said the incident highlighted the frustration many women feel about repeated cases of harassment in public spaces, noting that victims are often forced to take matters into their own hands due to lack of protection.
Her comments have reignited conversations around public safety for women in urban centres across Nigeria, particularly in densely populated commercial areas such as Yaba.
