NDLEA INTERCEPTS AMMUNITION HIDDEN IN GARRI ALONG ABUJA–KADUNA HIGHWAY

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a suspect accused of transporting military-grade ammunition concealed in bags of garri along the Abuja–Kaduna highway.

The agency disclosed that the suspect was apprehended during a routine patrol carried out on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Kaduna State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the agency’s spokesperson said the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Abdullahi Hassan, was intercepted while allegedly conveying a large cache of ammunition hidden inside fresh cassava granules, commonly known as garri.

A large cache of military-grade ammunition was intercepted by NDLEA officers on patrol along Abuja-Kaduna highway,” the statement said.

The agency disclosed that a total of 1,989 rounds of RLA 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

Abdullahi Hassan was arrested while transporting 1,989 rounds of ammunition carefully hidden inside bags of garri,” the statement added.

NDLEA said both the suspect and the recovered items had been handed over to another security agency for further investigation.

The arrest formed part of a series of operations carried out by the agency across the country over the past week.
