Arsenal have initiated discussions regarding a contract with defender Jurrien Timber as they aim to secure his long-term commitment to the club.

The Gunners are eager to acknowledge the Dutch international for his exceptional performances, which have established him as an integral member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

As reported by BBC Sports on Friday, negotiations are in the preliminary stages; however, there is a mutual desire among all parties to finalize an agreement that would prolong his tenure in north London beyond his current contract, set to expire in 2028.

The 24-year-old joined from Ajax in a transaction valued at £34.4 million during the summer of 2023. Unfortunately, his inaugural season at the Emirates was marred by an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in the opening match of the campaign against Nottingham Forest.

Following the injury, he managed to make only one additional appearance throughout the season but made a successful recovery, participating in 51 matches during the 2024-25 campaign.

The defender has continued to showcase his remarkable form this season, playing a pivotal role in Arsenal’s encouraging start and securing his position as the primary right-back.

The club is also engaged in negotiations with Bukayo Saka regarding a new long-term contract, with optimistic expectations that the England star will finalize an agreement soon.

Prominent central defender William Saliba has already committed to a new five-year contract.
