Cole Palmer has been sidelined for an additional six weeks, as confirmed by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on Friday.

The England midfielder has not participated since Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United on September 20, during which he exited midway through the first half.

Maresca had initially expressed optimism that Palmer, 23, would return following this month’s international recess.

“I was mistaken. Regrettably, he requires approximately six more weeks of recovery. So, that is the update,” he stated.

The Italian expressed confidence that the forward would not necessitate surgery.

“Our aim is to safeguard Cole as much as possible, and the paramount concern is that upon his return, he is fully recuperated,” he added.

Maresca, whose squad is set to compete against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, acknowledged the challenge of substituting “one of the finest players in the Premier League. ”

“Undoubtedly, we must identify an alternative approach, we need to discover different skill sets, as we lack another player of Cole’s caliber,” he remarked. “Cole is simply one of a kind. ”
