A police officer who was caught on video shooting at the tyre of a moving vehicle in front of Toscana Hotel along Okpanam Road, Asaba, Delta State, has been identified and detained by the authorities.
The incident, which happened on Tuesday night, drew widespread outrage after the footage went viral on social media. In the clip, the officer was seen aiming and firing at the vehicle as it attempted to drive away.
The act has been strongly criticised by citizens and security experts as reckless and a breach of standard firearm engagement rules in public spaces.
Reacting on Wednesday via a post on X, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, condemned the officer’s behaviour, describing it as “embarrassing, shameful, careless, unprofessional, and unjustified.”
