REPS URGE URGENT RELIEF FOR NIGER TANKER EXPLOSION VICTIMS
The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to immediately provide relief materials and medical support to victims of the recent fuel tanker explosion in Niger State.
The lawmakers made the call during plenary on Wednesday after adopting a motion of urgent national importance, describing the incident as tragic and calling for swift humanitarian intervention.
They asked the National Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to deploy emergency relief teams to the affected communities without delay, to assist families who lost loved ones and property in the explosion.
Members of the House expressed concern over the poor state of the Bida–Agaie–Lapai–Lambata–Diko Road corridor, which they said contributes to frequent tanker accidents in the state. They urged the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to fast-track the rehabilitation and expansion of the route.
The lawmakers also called on the Federal Road Safety Corps and other relevant agencies to enforce safety standards for vehicles transporting petroleum products, noting that repeated tanker explosions have claimed too many lives nationwide.
