The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspect involved in the gruesome murder of a 53-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Mr. Friday Orumgbe, in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

This was disclosed on Thursday in Asaba by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate violent crimes, cultism, and other threats to public peace in the state.

According to Edafe, the suspect, Musa Buhari, 25, was apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation by operatives attached to the Agbor Police Division.

“On October 7, 2025, a missing person’s report was received at the Agbor Division that one Friday Orumgbe, aged 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, left home on October 6 with his Lifan motorcycle and failed to return. Acting on the report, the DPO, CSP Michael Obekpa, ordered a discreet investigation,” Edafe stated.

He explained that on October 16, police operatives arrested Buhari and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 handset from him. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (now at large), had hired the deceased under the pretence of being passengers.

“They lured him into a bush along Power Line, near Oki, Agbor, where they attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone,” Edafe added.

The suspect later led operatives to the crime scene, where the victim’s decomposed corpse was discovered. The remains were identified by family members and deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for an autopsy.

In a separate operation, police in Warri also arrested a suspected cultist in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Edafe said the arrest followed intensified night patrols ordered by the DPO of ‘A’ Division, Warri, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, to curb cult-related clashes in the Ubeji community.

“At about 3:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, a patrol team from ‘B’ Division, Warri, sighted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV with registration number KWL 359 DS (Abuja) parked suspiciously with two occupants,” he stated.

The occupants, identified as Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26, failed to provide a credible explanation for their movement. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, one battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Christian Agbajor Akpos is a member of the Maphite confraternity and also affiliated with the Neo-Black Movement (NBM).

Edafe assured that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion.
