JUST IN: KANU’S TRIAL STALLED AS HE SACKS LAWYERS, COURT ADJOURNS TO FRIDAY

Read Time:48 Second

The trial of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, took a dramatic twist on Thursday after he suddenly fired his entire legal team, forcing the Federal High Court in Abuja to adjourn proceedings till Friday.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), stunned the court when he announced that he and other senior lawyers were withdrawing from the case, saying their client had decided to take over his own defence.

When asked to confirm, Kanu told Justice James Omotosho that he had indeed dismissed all his lawyers and would now represent himself.

The judge then asked the lawyers to leave the courtroom, but Kanu attempted to question the court’s jurisdiction. Justice Omotosho, however, urged him to focus on opening his defence.

One of the former defence lawyers pleaded with the court to give Kanu time to gather himself after the abrupt shake-up. The judge agreed and shifted the hearing to Friday, October 24, for Kanu to begin his defence.
