LP CRISIS: NENADI USMAN CALLS FOR ARREST OF ACTING INEC CHAIRMAN
The Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, is calling for the apprehension of the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), May Agbamuche-Mbu, for purported illicit collaboration with Julius Abure.
Usman articulated this request in a communiqué titled: “INEC’s Interim Chair in Criminal Collusion with Julius Abure Over Fabricated Court Order – She Must Be Apprehended,” which was endorsed by the Interim National Spokesperson, Toni Akeni, in Abuja on Thursday.
The party asserted that it has revealed yet another blatant assault on our democracy—this instance purportedly orchestrated by Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu in conjunction with the former National Chairman of the LP, Mr. Abure.

Akeni characterized the action of the acting INEC leader to invite Abure to the meeting last Tuesday with the heads of the 18 authorized political factions, despite an existing Supreme Court ruling, as reckless.
He stated, “In her justification, she claimed that INEC was merely adhering to a court order, asserting that if the faction led by Senator Nenadi Usman presented a legitimate ruling in their favor, the Commission would comply accordingly.
“Nevertheless, our independent and meticulous investigation has disclosed that no such court order exists.
“While it is factual that Mr. Abure instituted a suit against INEC in Suit No: CV/1914/2025 before Hon. Justice Kayode Agunloye of Court 40, FCT High Court, Gwagwalada, our official request for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of any decree allegedly acknowledging him as Chairman was met with a definitive confirmation from the court stating that no such order was ever issued. ”
The party contested Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu to present “the purported court order” upon which she based her recognition of Abure.
The communiqué read, “The reality is that INEC’s acting leadership has deliberately relied on a fabricated and nonexistent order to rationalize an unlawful and politically motivated action.
“Even if such an order had existed, it would have still been null and void, particularly in light of the Supreme Court’s unequivocal judgment of 4th April 2025, which definitively affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership of the Labour Party. ”
While encouraging its members nationwide to prepare for a peaceful protest, the party urged the incoming INEC Chairman to address what it termed “injustice” and cleanse the system of individuals who collude with politicians to undermine justice.
