A yet-to-be-identified tricycle rider has been shot dead by a stray bullet outside a brothel in the Badore area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, was reportedly the result of a cult-related shooting that broke out near the area late in the evening.
According to information gathered, the deceased had gone to the brothel to unwind after work but stepped out briefly to buy an item from a nearby shop before the assailants struck.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the attackers, believed to be cultists, drove into the area and began shooting sporadically, one of the bullets fatally hitting the victim.
“We were told that the man had just finished work and went to the brothel to relax. Shortly after, he stepped out to buy bottled water since the one inside was more expensive. While he was at a nearby shop, some men, believed to be cultists, drove past and started shooting aimlessly. One of the bullets hit him, and he died instantly,” the source said.
A resident who also witnessed the chaos but declined to be named said the shooters were in a blue Toyota Corolla and appeared to be targeting a rival group.
“We discovered it was a cult-related attack. Those who saw it said the gunmen were shooting indiscriminately as they drove by,” the resident said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the deceased’s body was recovered by officers the following morning.
“The attention of the police was called to the incident the next morning, and the corpse was found at the scene. The body was taken to the morgue, and after contacting the family, it has since been released for burial,” Adebisi said.
The killing adds to a worrying trend of cult-related shootings in parts of Lagos and other states in recent months.
Earlier in October, reports has it that Taoreed, a recent graduate of the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, was also killed by a stray bullet during a clash between rival cult groups in the community.
