Agency Report

Israeli air strikes on Friday killed two people in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health and the state-run National News Agency (NNA), as Israel confirmed it had targeted Hezbollah operatives.

The NNA reported that one man, identified as Abbas Hassan Karky, was “targeted by an Israeli drone with a guided missile while driving” along the road to Toul, near Nabatieh.

In a statement, the Israeli military said it had “struck and eliminated” Karky, describing him as “the logistics commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front headquarters.” The army added that he had led efforts to rebuild Hezbollah’s combat infrastructure following last year’s war with Israel and was responsible for managing weapons transfers and storage in southern Lebanon.

Shortly after, Lebanon’s health ministry said another Israeli strike targeting a vehicle near Nabatieh killed one person and wounded another. The Israeli military confirmed a strike in the same area, claiming it targeted “a terrorist involved in efforts to reestablish Hezbollah’s military capabilities.”

The strikes mark the latest escalation since the November 2024 truce, which was intended to end more than a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah that climaxed in two months of open warfare.

Just a day earlier, Israeli air raids in southern and eastern Lebanon killed four people, including an elderly woman. The Israeli army said those attacks targeted “terrorist facilities,” including a Hezbollah training camp.

Under the truce deal, Israeli troops were to withdraw from southern Lebanon while Hezbollah was expected to pull back north of the Litani River and dismantle its southern military infrastructure.

However, tensions persist. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during a meeting with U.S. General Joseph Clearfield, reiterated Beirut’s commitment to completing the “arms monopoly process south of the Litani River” before year’s end but demanded that Israel reciprocate by withdrawing from occupied Lebanese territories and halting ongoing attacks.

Despite the ceasefire terms, Israeli forces remain stationed at five border points deemed strategically significant, fueling renewed fears of a broader conflict.
