The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has sanctioned extensive disciplinary actions versus 31 officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service for diverse transgressions.

This is encapsulated in a declaration released on Friday in Abuja by the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI), Akinsola Akinlabi.

Akinlabi articulated that the judgment trailed the assessment of suggestions from the board stemming from its Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee (BDGPC), which assembled on July 11, 2025.

As per him, the penalties highlight the board’s determination to implement discipline, probity, and responsibility inside the Services under its oversight.

“Eight officials were discharged for grave misbehavior and breach of Service Regulations, whilst five others were mandatorily retired for offenses pertaining to misconduct.

“Furthermore, eight officials were downgraded by a single rank, and five were provided written admonition letters.

“The board also scrutinized appeals by two discharged officials but ratified their dismissal after unearthing no merit in their cases.

“Nevertheless, one official was reinstated subsequent to a successful appeal, whereas two others were absolved of all accusations,” he stated.

In a corresponding progression, Akinlabi exposed that the service dismissed two subordinate employees subsequent to them being adjudicated culpable of criminal collusion.

This, he mentioned, encompassed larceny, unlawful possession of firearms, and abduction.

“Their dismissal succeeded internal disciplinary proceedings concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025, respectively,” he stated.

Akinlabi mentioned that the governance was under the Chairman of the CDCFIB and Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the administration of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.

He said that the NIS continued to be dedicated to upholding the utmost ethical and proficient standards across all echelons.

“The disciplinary interventions will be executed without trepidation or favor and in rigorous accordance with prevailing rules and regulations,” he reassured.

In July, NIS CG Nandap uttered that the service’s legal department is pursuing disciplinary action versus officials found dispensing green passports to foreign nationals.
