SDP TAKES STAND: STATE CHAIRMEN UNITE BEHIND GABAM’S EXPULSION OVER ALLEGED MISCONDUCT
State Chairpersons of the Social Democratic Party have proclaimed their endorsement for the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, along with two additional members of the National Working Committee due to professional misconduct.
In a proclamation disseminated on Friday, the Chairman of the SDP State Chairpersons Forum and head of the Lagos State Chapter, Femi Olaniyi, remarked that the expulsion of these senior party officials represents a positive advancement, as reported by Vanguard Newspaper.
Olaniyi asserted, “The exit of Shehu Gabam at this pivotal juncture signifies a triumph for virtue over vice. The annals of history will not forget the years he occupied the position of national chairman.

“Unreservedly, Gabam has exerted a detrimental influence on the political maturation of the Social Democratic Party.
“Currently, the forum of Social Democratic Party state chairpersons wishes to convey our sincere appreciation to the party’s National Working Committee for their involvement in the removal of Shehu Gabam and others. It is a relief to witness the termination of such a harmful influence.
“Congratulations to all our members nationwide and to the party leadership for undertaking this courageous action to shield the party from irresponsible conduct and mischief. ”
The turmoil within the SDP took a new turn on Thursday when the National Working Committee expelled several senior officials of the party, including its former National Chairman, Gabam, and National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, in connection with allegations of misconduct and misuse of office.
The decision, made in Abuja at the conclusion of the NWC meeting, followed months of scrutiny and disciplinary measures.
Speaking to reporters at the party’s National Secretariat, the National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, while presenting the communiqué, indicated that the action was taken following the endorsement of the Disciplinary Committee’s report and a subsequent white paper that evaluated the findings and recommendations concerning the allegations against the individuals involved.
As reported, those dismissed and expelled include Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam (former National Chairman) and Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu (former National Youth Leader).
Additional individuals include Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, former National Auditor, who resigned voluntarily, along with eight others—Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu—who faced allegations of disloyalty and illegal entry into the party’s national secretariat on July 28, 2025.
It is noteworthy that the SDP National Working Committee had, on June 24, suspended Gabam due to serious financial misconduct, including allegations of embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds.
The party had also suspended Nze Nnadi Clarkson, National Auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, National Youth Leader, for similar infractions.
Furthermore, the media reports that Gabam has yet to issue any official statement regarding the state chairpersons’ resolution as outlined in the communiqué or the expulsion that occurred on Thursday.
