The Anambra State Police Command has foiled an armed robbery attack in Ezinifite Community, Nnewi South Local Government Area, following a swift response from a joint security team comprising police operatives and members of the Agunechamba Vigilante Group.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the attack occurred in the early hours of the day but was successfully repelled after the security team engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle.
According to Ikenga, one of the armed attackers was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while others fled into a nearby bush with suspected bullet wounds.
“The Anambra State Police Command confirms an attempted armed attack on Ezinifite Community, Nnewi South Local Government Area, in the early hours of today, 27th October 2025,” the statement read.
“Fortunately, the attack was successfully repelled following a swift response and resistance from a combined security team of the Police and Agunechamba Vigilante operatives in the area. The joint security team engaged the assailants in a gunfire exchange, leading to the neutralisation of one of the attackers, while the others escaped into a surrounding bush with suspected bullet injuries.
“The operatives also recovered one pump-action gun from the scene, as well as the body of the neutralised suspect,” he added.
Ikenga further noted that offensive and intelligence-led follow-up operations are ongoing in collaboration with police tactical units to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the bravery and vigilance of the local security architecture, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety—particularly as the November 8, 2025 governorship election draws near.
The police spokesperson also recalled that similar operations in September 2025 led to the foiling of armed robbery attempts in Oba and Awka, where two stolen vehicles were recovered following coordinated pursuits by officers attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, and Oba Division.
He reaffirmed that the Command’s enhanced patrols and rapid response strategy have continued to frustrate criminal activities across Anambra State, ensuring improved peace and safety in local communities.
