The Federal Fire Service (FFS), in collaboration with the Kano State Police Command, on Tuesday commenced the training of 100 police officers, hoteliers, and members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association on Basic Fire Safety and Firefighting Skills.
The initiative marks the beginning of activities commemorating the 2025 Fire Safety Week in the state and also featured awards and recognitions for individuals and organisations supporting fire safety compliance.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, was honoured with the Chief Fire Safety Ambassador Award for his contribution to public safety and support for the Fire Service.
Speaking at the event, Bakori described the training as a significant step toward strengthening the state’s collective ability to prevent and respond to fire incidents effectively.
“I am particularly pleased that this year’s Fire Safety Week includes the training of 100 Police Officers on Basic Fire Safety and Firefighting Skills.
This initiative is a commendable step toward equipping our officers with critical knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to fire emergencies,” he said.
He noted that fire safety is an integral part of public safety, adding that the training would enhance officers’ capacity and improve the overall safety framework within Kano State.
Bakori also commended the Federal Fire Service for its continued efforts in capacity building and professional development.
“Your dedication to equipping personnel and institutions with the necessary skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to fire incidents has undoubtedly helped in saving countless lives and properties,” he added.
The Police Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service for the honour bestowed on him, describing the award as a reflection of the strong partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Fire Service in Kano State.
Other activities lined up for the week-long Fire Safety Week include additional training sessions for hoteliers and members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, aimed at promoting fire prevention awareness and preparedness across various sectors.
