In a major security breakthrough, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s Scorpion Squad have rescued 23 foreign nationals and arrested 14 suspected kidnappers during a sting operation in Ado-Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

According to a statement by the police, the operation was carried out around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, at Angwan Adamu Ruga Fulani Zone B, Riverside, Ado-Mararaba. The victims were reportedly lured into Nigeria under the guise of job offers before being abducted and held hostage for ransom.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate was led by one Abubakar Jigiba, a notorious transnational criminal kingpin operating across Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, and Nigeria. His younger brother, identified as Sougule Zoubere, was said to have coordinated the recruitment, trafficking, and detention of victims brought from Mali into Nigeria.

The rescued victims — comprising 14 males, eight females, and one child — were found confined in two fortified two-bedroom apartments under deplorable conditions. While most were unharmed, one victim sustained a minor ear injury and was taken to the National Hospital, Abuja, for treatment.

The police confirmed the arrest of 14 suspects identified as Bubakari Cisse (40), Karamogo Dembele (25), Musa Kamsoko (23), Amadou Traore (25), Sareba Traore (24), Zoumana Diara (23), Umar Koulibaly (26), Alasgara Sagara (20), Berthe Saidu (23), Abdullahi Napo (32), Isah Goita (26), Lorita Traore (22), Mohammed Siaaibe (23), and Haruna Dembele (37).

Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, PSC, commended the Scorpion Squad for their swift and coordinated response, noting that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle cross-border kidnapping and human trafficking syndicates operating within the FCT and neighboring states.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or persons to law enforcement agencies using available emergency lines.

Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the syndicate leaders, Jigiba and Zoubere, who remain at large.

The rescue operation, according to the command, marks a significant step in the fight against transnational organized crime and reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening regional and international security cooperation.
