MAY 29: TINUBU APPOINTS A 13-MAN PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION COMMITTEE
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the country’s new president, has appointed a 13-person committee made up of prominent Nigerians to plan the week-long ceremony that will officially install him and Senator Kashim Shettima as the nation’s new president and vice president.
A former senator from Borno North and current National Deputy Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Abubakar Kyari, was named by Tinubu as the Coordinator and Director of Finance and Budget of the Committee in a letter to Mr. Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Stella Okotete, the Executive Director for Business Development at the Nigeria Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, will be in charge of the week-long event’s secretariat, planning, and monitoring, and Mr. Makinde Araoye, a former APC candidate for governor of Ekiti State, will be in charge of the venue, parades, and swearing-in ceremonies.
While Dr. Betta Edu, the current National Women Leader of the APC, and the Cross Rivers State Commissioner for Health would oversee the medical team for the inauguration committee, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the APC Presidential Campaign Spokesperson, would be in charge of media and publicity.
Col. Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, the younger brother of the late Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, will oversee security for the inauguration together with Mrs. Zainab Buba Marwa, who will organize the pre-inauguration dinner and gala night for the committee.
Samira Saddik (Children’s Day), Andrew Abuh (Accommodation), Dr. Danladi Bako (Inaugural Lecture), Hadiza Mohammed Kabir (Transportation and Logistics), Donald Wokoma (Protocol and Invitation), Bishop Adegbite (Church Service), and Imam Faud (Jumat Service) are additional committee members.
Recall that Boss Mustapha had originally received the names of Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, to be included as the President-elect Tinubu’s representatives in the Transition Committee.
Tinubu is expected to be inaugurated as president on May 29, 2023.
