According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), its agents stopped another diesel fire explosion at Obadeyi before Ijaye on the Lagos-Abeokuta motorway early on Thursday morning.

According to a press release issued by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the tanker (JJJ 596 XX), which was completely laden with diesel products, toppled at around 6:10 a.m., causing its contents to spill onto the motorway.

Adebayo stated that as soon as LASTMA arrived on the site, they chased away scoopers and cleared the entire area in order to stop another impending fire explosion.

“After arriving at the scene, LASTMA personnel immediately called the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services including LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) and immediately secured the environment against area boys and other members of the public who had started scooping diesel with buckets/jerry cans.”

Adebayo confirmed that Policemen from Meiran Police Division provided security backup at the scene.

“Priliminary investigations revealed that the falling tanker fully loaded with diesel was coming from Abule-Egba going to Ijaye before the driver lost control due to a brake failure at Obadeyi.”

A traffic diversion at Hamadiya was announced by LASTMA for both Hamadiya Hospital Way and those travelling against the toll gate.

It further stated that the tanker driver fled the area right away following the mishap, according to Traffic Officer Ajalekoko Bolade (Bravo 19, Abule-Egba), who oversaw Lastma rescue operations.
